ALIBI
This project was a 10 week, individual, 4th Year Project. The brief was to design a 'digital nomadic' device that would aid in working away from the office.

Individual

10 Weeks
The Initial Idea
to be developed.
-
A product that you will video call from home which will act as a virtual version of yourself sitting at your desk.
-
It will allow for interactions with colleagues working out of the office without the need for an official video call.
-
This will improve mental health & social interaction as well as group collaboration & office moral.
Design Preparation

Research
Design Preparation
Understanding the market.
-
I researched products that do similar things.
-
I researched office spaces & products used in office spaces.
-
I looked at interestingly shaped products to inspire me.
mood board,
created from my research to aid in my concept development, market understanding & help create a potential colour palette.

Concept development

Digital Drawing
Concept Development
Using research to develop a design direction.
-
I experimented with shape using ideation pages.
-
I then developed the chosen direction to begin to get an initial final form.
ideation
By using the mood board & sketching I decided on an overall form to develop further.

Cocept Research

Research
Concept Research
Ensuring the product is user-centred & functional.
-
I performed thorough user centred research & technical research to ensure the product was as user friendly & to understand how the product would function.
User centred research
-
I performed a group interview to better understand user's requirements.
-
I wrote an initial list of user requirements to guide my development.
-
I wrote a detailed design brief using the user requirements.

technical research
-
I researched each component that was going into the ALIBI.
-
I researched how similar products work.

Digital Drawing
Concept Form Development
Developed the overall form.
-
Developed the form to ensure it was aesthetic, fit the researched components & fit the user requirements.
Form development

Digital Drawing
Technical Development
Developed the technical details.
-
After deciding on the basic form I developed the details to ensure the product fit the specification.
Technical development

I developed a USB C charging port indent & light to show when the user is available
Charging port & availability light

Base vents
I designed cooling vents on the bottom of the charging base.

Button placement & design
I played around with a few button designs & placements to ensure it fit with the design aesthetic.

Speaker solution
A worked out how the speaker could be down facing & added a charging light to the base.

CAD

3D Printing & Blender
Visualising the design & testing the ergonomics.
-
I modelled the design in Blender to aid me in modelling a more detailed solidworks model.
-
I 3D printed the design to understand the designs proportions and test that it was a user friendly product.

Keyshot
Final Design
Final CAD model & rendered visuals.
-
After modelling the final design in Solidworks it was rendered in Keyshot.
-
The renders were edited and formatted using Affinity Designer, Publisher & Photo.
