BRAUN FX-CREO

This project was a 4 week, individual, 4th Year Project. The brief was to design a cordless 18V power drill for a brand of choice.

Understanding the brand & market.

  • I researched Braun's ethos & designers.

  • I looked at past & current Braun products.

  • I looked at current power drill designs on the market.

Using research to develop client concepts.

  • I developed 3 concepts for my client, each aimed at a different direction.

  • I then developed the chosen direction based on client feedback.

Client Comments,

on concept directions.

  • They favoured the design direction of concept 1.

  • They wanted a slight colour scheme change so that it was more classic Braun.

  • They thought the design needed a base, but not with such a strong angle.

Overall form development

I added details & ensured that the components would fit in the design.

I changed the colourways to more traditional Braun as requested by the client.

I changed the base shape & details like the vents and handle shape.

Base detail development

I explored how the charging base detaches from the main body.

Button development

I sketched different button placements to ensure they were ergonomic.

Grip development

Using 2D splines I explored the most flattering & ergonomic grip placement.

Final Design

Final CAD model & rendered visuals.

  • After modelling the final design in Solidworks it was rendered in Keyshot.

  • The renders were edited and formatted using Affinity Designer, Publisher & Photo.

The CREO is designed for cordless use. 

The 18V battery can be released by pressing the button on the base. The angle of the drill head allows it to stand whilst the battery charges.
